DENTAL HYGIENE

A surefire way to keep your smile healthy

A beautiful, healthy smile plays an important role in the way you look and feel. Keeping your smile in its best possible condition will not only help ensure overall long-term health, but can also enhance your general well being.

Poor oral hygiene can lead to a variety of dental and general health problems, such as periodontal disease, tooth loss, heart disease, stroke, and even some types of cancers.

Fortunately, one of the easiest, most important things you can do to maintain good oral health is to practice good dental hygiene.

To keep your smile in optimal condition, we recommend brushing your teeth at least twice every day or after each meal with an electric toothbrush (such as Sonicare), and flossing at least once a day. Maintaining a balanced, nutritious diet will also contribute to healthy teeth and gums.

While daily brushing and flossing can help keep periodontal disease and tooth decay to a minimum, a visit to Novato Family Dental Care every six months for a routine cleaning and preventive care exam will give us the opportunity to evaluate your current oral health.

Your initial hygiene appointment includes a comprehensive exam with a full series of charting and x-rays taken. We will also perform a periodontal assessment to help us determine the best type of cleaning for the current condition of your gums and teeth.

On a regular basis, our dental and hygiene teams look for early stage problem areas, and gently remove tartar and calculus your toothbrush and floss may have missed. We continue to screen for periodontitis and oral cancer, and always check in on the condition of your restorative dentistry.

We make sure to take the time to listen to our patients’ concerns, and help educate them about the best ways to maintain optimum oral health between hygiene appointments.

With a passion to help each patient develop and maintain a manageable, personal oral health regimen for life, we’ll ensure you are doing everything you can to keep your smile healthy for the long term.
