Sometimes it’s your best option
While our goal to help you keep your natural teeth for life, there are times when a tooth extraction is the best solution for conditions such as (but not limited to):
- Teeth that are fractured at or below the gumline
- Advanced periodontal disease
- Extensive tooth decay
- Crowded primary teeth or those not falling out properly
- Supernumerary, supplementary or malformed teeth
An extraction is most often recommended when a tooth is damaged or decayed beyond repair, or in cases of one or more impacted wisdom teeth. Our Novato Family Dental Care dentists can perform most tooth extractions right here in our office. For wisdom teeth extractions, we will refer you to a trusted specialist
With most extractions, a local numbing anesthetic is all that is needed to make the process comfortable. If you feel overly anxious about the procedure, we offer nitrous oxide to relax you. During the treatment, you may feel a little pressure from the tooth being removed, but we’ll make sure you won’t feel any pain.
It is very important to follow the post-operative instructions we will provide you in order to minimize risk of infection or complications.
We offer a variety of solutions to replace an extracted tooth, including dentures, bridges, and dental implants. We take the time before the procedure to discuss with you all of your tooth replacement options, and help you decide which one will best meet your needs physically, esthetically, and financially.
