We’ll make sure you’re covered
There’s no need to live with cracked, worn or decayed teeth that will only get worse as time goes on. Dental crowns are a proactive solution to restoring strength, function and appearance to teeth damaged from severe decay, fractures, or deteriorating fillings. They are also used to complete root canal therapy and cap dental implants.
Custom designed to fit snugly and function like a healthy tooth, a crown will protect your tooth from further damage, and can help preserve your jaw’s correct, natural alignment. Crowns also restore strength and structure to your bite, and enable you to enjoy the freedom of eating your favorite foods.
We offer a variety of crown options to suit your individual needs —porcelain fused to metal, all gold, or all porcelain for a fully white smile. Our dental lab uses only the highest quality materials, and will sculpt your crown to fit the anatomy of your tooth perfectly and blend naturally with your other teeth.
With careful consideration, our expert dentists can help you decide on the best crown option for you. We can also promise you a healthy, beautiful smile strengthened with a restoration that will last for many years to come.
Restore, protect and preserve your teeth
Novato Family Dental Care offers patients two different options for repairing cavity-damaged teeth. The location and extent of the tooth decay, cost of the filling material and your insurance coverage are all important factors in determining which type of filling may be best for you.
Usually fillings can be completed in one dental appointment. After numbing your tooth, we first remove any decay, then cleanse, protect and prepare the tooth. Next we precisely place the filling, then shape and polish it, and finally restore your tooth to its original shape and function.
Composite (metal-free) fillings
Composite fillings are made from a resin material and customized for each patient. Because we color match the filling to your teeth to blend naturally with the rest of your smile, it is usually difficult to tell where the filling ends and the natural tooth begins!
Composite fillings not only provide a natural appearance, they also add strength and durability because they bond so well to the tooth structure and create a strong seal.
Because the material is easily shaped to retain your natural bite, and precisely colored to blend with your natural teeth, composite fillings are an ideal restoration option for cavity damage.
Silver amalgam fillings have been the traditional method of repairing decayed, cracked, or fractured teeth for over 100 years, and are still widely used today. Because of their color, they are mainly used for teeth in the back of the mouth where they cannot be easily noticed.
Sensitivity to hot and cold is normal when amalgam fillings are first placed, but that will subside once the tooth is accustomed to the new filling. Practicing good oral hygiene and scheduling regular dental visits will ensure your filling’s longevity.
While amalgam fillings are not considered permanent, and may someday need replacement, they remain a durable and economical solution to cavity-damaged teeth that will last a very long time.
